"middle class" are people making $500K /year right now.
Sadly most people I know , who make substantially less than that, believe themselves to be "middle class" because they hold traditional middle class values.
If you can't afford to put 30% of your yearly income away , you're just working poor. Everytime they "raise the bottom" they raise the bar to get to the top. That's why they do it.
