I grew up in the U-46 district and it was already having problems back in the 90s just because of how poorly its run.
We're at the point where if you care about your kids you don't sent them to public schools. Especially if they're white.
My company does a lot of work for U-46 and the city. Most of the city workers are ok but dealing with the school district representatives is like banging your skull against a wall. Nothing but virtue signaling and it takes 20 people to make a decision about even the most minor of things. Then we are usually back in 6 months changing things because someone else made a different decision. These school districts are flush with money yet they cry poor every chance they get. And the amount of waste is insane. They also have a lot of things in storage ie desks, chairs, books, tables, etc that either sit forever or get thrown out just because they run out of space. I had a similar issue with St Charles schools where they built a new Jr High right next to the old one and we did the work on the old one as it was becoming a park district facility and temporary library. They filled many dumpsters with education materials, desks, office supplies, tools, etc that were new or perfectly fine. They said it was too expensive to move to the new location 500 feet away. SMH. I got some free stuff though.
My whole area used to pick the school dumpsters over the summer.
Especially the poor families who wanted stuff for their kids including school supplies.
This is why I always vote against school tax increases and incentives.
