despite being certain there are people out there who are a great deal smarter than me, that the vast majority have no clue about what seem like basics to me.
I find that to be amazing. I know there's people massively smarter than me in my field, but those same people couldn't hold a conversation outside of their field(s) of expertise. Hell, in the right circumstances they expose how little they actually know about their field of expertise.

This is a big reason why it feels like occupying all of my time with one pursuit is stupid. There's too many things I like to learn and talk about for me to focus that much on one particular area.
