Seems like the early primary debates are designed to make the weakest Republican candidate the nominee. Which is how we wound up with Trump, because he worked that "Jerry Springer" angle so well. He still turned out to be a stronger candidate than Shillary though, because she was anointed by her party even though she was a very weak candidate, being a lifelong political hack with no real core of personality. Trump says whatever's on his mind even if it's stupid, but Shillary only says things that she believes the people she's with at the moment want to hear her say at the moment.
What Americans really want is someone with principles who stands by them. I don't even think his principles need to be in alignment with theirs, as long as he has ones that you can define. Maybe that's what really got Adolph into power, he said what he really believed when he spoke to the People.
