You should do the math on having your wife stay at home with the kids, factor in economic things like reduction in costs due to lower vehicle usage, homemade meals vs pre-made meals/eating out, etc., along with overall quality of life and the fact that some stranger is essentially raising your kid(s).

If you have a kid you automatically get a credit (I think its 3600 per kid) per year on your taxes. Rather than waiting until your tax return comes they send you monthly checks. So it'll be a smaller tax return but spread out over the year in 300 dollar checks per kid.
