Bare with me as I'm British, but with a population of around 700,000 and (I'm guessing) a good proportion of that are staffers, or professional lobbyists and a good further proportion of the remaining population to be those who rely on work generated by having the capital establishment there. Will this be a near permanent Democrat stronghold? Is Washington DC the US equivalent of The City of London, which the more you read up on, the more it sounds dodgy as fuck?

Being British, you have reason to not understand how the ungrateful Colonials operate, so I'll be happy to expand on it a little. (US citizens have no excuse.)

The District of Columbia was set up so that no one state hosted the capitol and therefore potentially hold greater sway on the Federal government than other states. It was also never intended to be a full-time location for politicians (and lobbyists) to settle in. It was designed for members of Congress to meet and discuss what was going on in their respective states.

The current political makeup of DC is something like 75% Democrat, so the party wants to cement that control by adding two Senators and one Representative to the numbers. To answer your question directly, yes. They want it to be a permanent Democrat stronghold.

And it is indeed dodgy as fuck.

The reason i heard it also did NOT want statehood was because it was its own mini Israel at a time, and jews absolutely hate being held to any rules or laws.

When was that? I'm an old man and I don't remember a time when DC wasn't pushing for statehood.
