I’m not a papist, I’m Orthodox
So this will only work if there is an orthodox white king. Ok. You didnt say that.
The reason that didn’t happen is because the Jesuits got to Japan first, and used Christianity to attempt to subvert the Chrysanthemum Throne
More excuses why yet another monarchy didnt work out. The world is full of corrupt elements like Jesuits that are never going away. That is the state of the world. Its full of corruption. The emperor was too young and naive. So they got embroiled in a war they couldnt win.
Sidenote I just watched Shogun the miniseries on archive.org/details/shogun_miniseries which is pretty interesting and does cover the early jesuit infiltration, if youre interested.

What do you mean? The Japanese monarchy is still there, and one of the best.

Not necessarily. I’m Orthodox, but I would obey the King of White America to the extent he’s recognized as such by my Bishop. Don’t misunderstand me.
Shogun was pretty interesting, but notice there was no mention of Orthodoxy, at all. In the movie, Christianity = Papism. A deliberate conflation.
Well Richard Chamberlain was a prod. They showed the conflict between the protestants and the catholics.
There was no orthodoxy in the show because the greeks werent exploring japan.

Oh yeah you’re right, I’d forgotten about that. Still, getting “forgotten” about in Western cinema is a common Orthodox experience. I’m pretty sure it’s on purpose though, since most First Century jews became Orthodox Christians, and even have their own Patriarchate in Jerusalem who manage the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and other holy sites. I think they’re still bitter about that.
I think they also worry that, if American Evangelicals find out about them, they might actually want their money going to the actual Judean Christians, rather than the people pretending to be “jews”.
As such, I think there’s a “good” reason the Orthodox aren’t more commonly featured in Western pictures.
