TIL, dialup internet is still available.
Time to switch to this: !
I'm surprised a bunch of trolls havent started a campaign to get people to sign up for this, so AOL sees a huge uptake in numbers and then announces they won't cancel their dial up service, then the trolls cancel their subscriptions.
Is 56 k-bit/sec still the gold standard for dialup? My dad rocked that shit up until 2014!
That's pretty much the limit for a copper phone line.
Sheeeit, if you weren't running out and buying the next "fastest" modem every month or so, you were scrambling for the next fasted cpu, video card or a faster cdrom drive.
Then omg, a dvd drive.
Fun times when you could prowl stores like CDW warehouse or Tiger Direct looking for little doo-hickey connectors or a Lite On cdrom drive for $20.
