I mean kind of. Its a completely different bullet. But regardless. Its not really the best choice for hunting medium large animals. It is a good choice for commies though.

5.56 was designed to wound, not kill. Its smaller and lighter so more rounds can be carried at a time. A wounded soldier is is bad for moral and takes 2 soldiers to carry him off the battlefield. Not to mention the resources for recovery. Go ahead and shoot big game with that round and see how far you have to track it.

I don't hunt with my AR, but that's because I have better guns for the various game. An AR would be a sufficient all-rounder though if you knew what you're doing.

I don't hunt specifically because the state says I can't use my AR-15s. Not because it destroys the meat - but because it's not powerful enough to down a deer if you don't place the shot perfectly.

that also affects the meat, though. if an animal is terrified as it dies, the meat tastes worse.

quick, clean kills are better.

An aside: a muslim chef I knew some years ago confirmed they'd get the animal riled up, get its adrenaline flowing, and then cut their throat. Claimed it made the meat taste better. I still use my 30-06 to hunt, but .223 would work.
