You are almost there.....You see that the Changelings are them but do not see their lesser half which they use as that 'shield'....Scratch the surface and you do not see them, but see their throw aways and shabos goy. Much like they make sure the top staff at the news corps etc are easily identified as the tribe. The lesser of a tribe are always sacrificed for the greater good of the tribe.
