It might have been season 3 of True Detective. Seasons 1 & 3 of True Detective are the best TV I'v ever seen.

It a HBO show. You can get it on Amazon. Just go click on it and it will probably offer you a free one-month subscription to the HBO channel. Just cancel at the end of the month. It's slow yes but damn good.
