Best fucking episodic series EVER. I'm having withdrawal symptoms, but unfortunately I will have to wait until season 4 to get my next fix.

To anyone not familiar with Cobra Kai, it is a series based on the 1984 martial arts movie "The Karate Kid", but is set decades into the future. What really makes the show is using the cast members from the original movie. This series plays well as a comedy and as an action series.

VERDICT: I fucking loved it. 10/10

The show never really did better than its initial premise in the first season. Pretty much been all downhill from there. It's a fine enough show - relative to everything else coming out nowadays - but it still isn't that great. The first season also suffered from all these weird coincidences like there are all of a half dozen people living in the city. Daniel's daughter happens to hit Johnny's car. Or like this and that person will start getting along and then they find out they both know the same other person and the first person likes them and the second person hates them.

Also a lot of the dialogue is not written well enough for any of these teenage actors to sell it. I don't remember any particular line but like at the fight at the house near the end of season 3, they might as well have been saying crap like, "You will pay for your insolence!" The bad writing really just highlights how bad their acting is. They're convincing enough when they're staying in their narrow boring stupid teenager lane at least.

Johnny is a pretty good character, or at least started off as one. I think they do the "I've apparently been in a coma since the 80s what's a internet?" thing too much. He's the best when he's telling people to stop being pussies and acts all incredulous at the ridiculous pussy things people say. He's boring when he's running around having family drama.

Which is another thing, the show keeps finding dumb excuses to pad the drama out and keep it going. They could have had a pretty perfect and tight single-season show - mostly following the premise of the first season and reworking a few things but it just turned into some dumb soap opera where they just keep churning out plot threads until I don't care about any of them.

Still, almost every current show is worse.
