I had someone tell me that they and their Wife both had to get second/side jobs to afford child care. When I told him, why doesn't your Wife just take care of your kids and stop working they looked at me like I was insane. This was about a decade ago too so I can't imagine the reaction I would get today.

Why the fuck would you chose to work to pay for someone else to take care of your kids where it is also a complete wash and you not only don't get to spend time with your kids but you are not "getting ahead" or saving for your/their future? I just don't get it.
