My personal experience with the flu vaccine was that every single time I got it (forced when I was young) I got sick for a week. I stopped getting it and I don't think I have had the flu more than once or twice since and it was only for a day or two. YMMV but it seems like my system reacts poorly to it and is worse than just catching whatever is going around (sometimes).
