Read an interesting paper once regarding all this. Tried to find it, but can’t. I’ll try to give the key points I recall. Before 1900 and even up to WWII a ten year old boy could run a farm by himself if he had to and often times did. 80% of Americans were self employed. Families were strong and strong communities were born from it. What changed? The obvious answer is jews, though the paper did not touch on this. It is in fact the root cause of this change. That change came in the form of (((public education))) of children and the keeping of children as children far past what is naturally required or optimal. Throw in the mix (((big pharma))) and poorer and poorer nutrition by the well poisoners and you get what you see today, a societal mess easily controlled. It’s methodically deeper than that of course, but you get the drift.

The child’s brain is a sponge from the day it is born. Before the 1900’s children played a huge part in both family and society. From farm to world exploration to factory children were involved. Guilds were a huge thing. Six to eight year old boys were taken into these guilds. Take silversmithing for example, he would start out sweeping floors, visually taking in the goings on of the shop. Soon he’d be put to another simple task of the shop until mastered, then another and another until by the time he was sixteen he was a full fledged Master Silversmith in his own right. He was able to go out and make his own living as a silversmith.

Now the interesting part. At this point he is in the middle of great chemical changes in his body. Either coming into or out of puberty. At this same time his female counterparts, having gone through childhood with no less of a training, but in the running and maintenance of a home or farm. She has taken care of younger siblings, sewn and repaired clothes, cooked and organized meals, learned of herbs and medicines to take care of the sick and injured, learned to preserve foods and when, etc., etc.

She too is going through chemical changes in her body, but a bit earlier, twelve to fourteen years of age generally. Marriages of a boy to a girl of twelve were quite common. Usually arranged, but not always. This is where the paper claims something magical takes place. Upon the consummation of the marriage at these ages and the chemical and physical changes going on to their bodies and brains be they arranged or by mutual choice, a bonding takes place. Especially in females. Something beyond societal norms or religious beliefs. This bonding will last a lifetime. Any marriage after that due to death or the occasional abandonment would never achieve the same level of devotion as that first pairing at that particular time of maturity. Hence the older widow choosing a young woman at that young age was common. It was well known if you were the first to take her, she would be in most cases a loving and loyal wife and mother.

Imagine being sixteen and a master craftsman with your own business, able to provide for a loving wife and as many children as you wanted! Many men were able to pursue several crafts, trades or degrees at colleges because of these guilds. One had time to attend other things while apprentices took care of the work. Generally both men’s and women’s lives were healthy and fulfilled. Provided the luck of the draw that is life cooperated of course. Those odds for that cooperation increased under a system such as this I suppose.
