How did you know not to trust the government? From TV, or books and newspapers, or from personal experience?

Growing up in the 80s, my distrust of the government started in school where I saw the ridiculousness of their policies. As I got older I realized that a lot of what the government does defies common sense. I've always been a libertarian at heart.
