So stockpile some food and supplies.
But more importantly (far more importantly) learn to becomes self-sufficient to a fair degree.
Given our population I don’t think you need to know how to survive in every single aspect, but you will need to know the basics and at least one specialty which will help you and your family survive and will contribute to whatever community in which you reside.
TAKE NOTE KEYBOARD WARRIORS: When the shit hits the fan, your coding skills or your accounting skills won’t mean much to others. If you are useless to others then nobody will trade with or help you.
So get some good tools and learn a craft or two to a decent degree. Learn a bit about growing food or farming. Learn how to butcher. Learn how to sew or mend clothes. Learn basic first aid and maybe even some advanced medical stuff (minor surgery, large wound care). Learn how to hunt. Learn woodworking. Learn basic blacksmithing. Learn the basics of mechanical repair.
You don’t have to learn them all, but you should know at least a fair degree of one good survival skill. If you have some supplies and at least one good skill, you will be useful to you and your family and to others who will share their skills with you in return for you sharing yours. That’s how good communities are built.
