Chris Rock got bitch slapped on stage and nothing happened. No security, no handcuffs, no charges, no fines, no time, nothing. If I was to look at it legally: nigger on nigger violence is okay with the state. A white man was given a police escort through sacred American halls, where We the People's laws are made and he was imprisoned. So, it's not okay to be White in the eyes of the law?

I’m assuming Chris Rock chose not to press charges against Will Smith.

Elon’s point still stands though.

People are arrested and charged all the time with the victims of the crime not "pressing charges". The assault was broadcast on live tv.

Most of the time, prosecutors have the final say when it comes to filing charges or asking a grand jury for an indictment. Political or public pressure sometimes changes their minds.

Generally speaking, a victim cannot press charges nor force an unwilling prosecutor to file charges or seek an indictment from a grand jury. The prosecutor, exercising "prosecutorial discretion," has the final say.

I'm pretty sure Chris Rock getting slapped was just a publicity stunt to save the oscars, which was getting record low views.
