Got this response: Bodybagger Bodybagger @Bodybagger 50m · · Memes, memes, and more memes. @last18500 My findings based on 1860 in America: Total American population including first nations and black individuals - 31,443,000 American Jewish population - 175,000 or 1/180th of the population Number of Jewish slave owners if, 40% owned slaves - 70,000 According to data archived by the Integrated Public Use Microdata Series at the University of Minnesota the U.S. had 395,216 slaveholders at that time, so about 1.4% of free people were classified as slave owners in the 1860 census The number of non-Jewish slave owners would then be - 325,216 This is still a ratio of 4.6 to 1 of slave ownership by white Americans versus Jewish Americans which is definitely NOT 78% of slave owners but 17%, which if the 40% figure is accurate would be high but probably a reflection of anyone in the Americas with wealth and social status at that time. Poor folks couldn't afford slaves, they had to do the work themselves. So it's really a rich/poor thing just like in the ancient Roman empire when the Patricians owned all the slaves and the Plebes did not, but they did the "work" required to capture them until they found they were being displaced by the slaves that they sent home to Rome and then rebelled. Anyway using total population as a measure also includes babies and children who would not legally own anything. Either way, the slave trade was not unique to the Americas and has been practiced throughout the world since antiquity. Thankfully there are few slave owners in the parts of the world that have been heavily influenced in their laws by the Christian faith, and those that exist in these nations are all doing so illegally. However it is worth noting that slavery is still "normal" in many nations that are not rooted in Christian laws. It is also worth noting that the Africas had a long history of enslaving their fellow tribesmen long before the Europeans ever started buying slaves from the African slaving tribes. Also the market had been established into the Islamic nations long before the white European nations started buying African slaves, so much so that the Arabic word for a non-Muslim was applied as a derogatory term by the Dutch to the native Africans blacks when they established their colonies there. Don't forget that Irish slaves were used widely by the English since they were much cheaper than any African one, the transport costs being so low.
