Why give them any warning at all? Just have teams show up and demand documents and computer files, and watch people squirm as they have to produce them, and have no chance to hide/delete/destroy information.

It's a trap. Monitoring sensitive docs, warning all of the impending audit, catching the guilty trying to hide sensitive info before the audit. That's my guess.
