Leaks out of the tires slower, and I believe it's not as sensitive to temperature fluctuations. It's not worth 1500 dollars tho. Costco will put that shit in for free when you buy new tires.

I air down about 4x a month. Also I love temp fluctuations. Drove of of my garage last weekend at 32psi. Got to the trail head at 29psi. Hell yeah I didn't even have to adjust the tires for off road.

It's a complete scam. I don't know how every human being doesn't understand this. The atmosphere is 70% nitrogen already. If "regular" air leaks out of your tires faster than nitrogen, that means after a couple of fills your tires will be almost 100% nitrogen anyway. All the other shit will have leaked out.

Aero mechanic here. Literally the only reason we fill airplane tires with nitrogen is because it's dry, and expands/contracts less with temperature. Something only an airplane tire would really benefit from. It leaks out at almost the exact same rate, does NOT give you better fuel economy ( even accounting for change in temperature), does NOT improve steering or braking, and does NOT reduce tire wear.

But the $ in the contract. Would be worth more than the nitrogen cost.

Nitrogen fill is only useful in ...

I'm not sure it's useful anywhere. It takes a little bit of effort to find a place that will fill tires with N. Usually the place that installed the tires or sold the vehicle will do it for free. However, I don't like taking an extra trip just to get my tires filled when I can do it using a 12V infiltrator in my driveway or work parking lot using normal air.

You'll do far more damage driving a few miles on a massively underinflated tire than you ever will with even high humidity normal air. Five minutes of inflating after a temperature change or one minute checking with a simple pencil gauge (I'm partial to Milton which I think are still made in USA). I can't see the extra effort unless you have something exotic that gets driven into the triple digits regularly.

Also, every time I've helped somebody install a spare tire on their car after a flat, it has been massively underinflated. Most of the spares require like 90 psi, so keeping a portable pump in your car that can go to that high of a pressure just makes sense to me.

There are useful applications for Nitrogen fill... low profile tires, high altitude driving, arctic driving, and race applications to name a few. In some climates and markets Nitrogen fill is a free service at many auto shops to get you in the door like u/Mr_Wolf stated.

The overall point is that on a TRX with 32' tires that will be driven around L.A. charging for Nitrogen fill is a total and complete scam.

As someone who knows quite a bit about reality, I would really like someone to explain the nitrogen in tires thing.

N is 80% of normal air, so what in the world would replacing mostly O with more of it? Do tires have an oxidation problem on the inside?

how would it change milage? if it was H then it might reduce the skin effect and moment of inertia (but i highly doubt this would change much); but N?

All of that bull shit they mention on the sticker is a lie or a serious exaggeration. The reason for nitrogen fill in tires is that it is leas impacted by temperature expansion of the gas. Nitrogen gas in tires is very helpful in places with regular and drastic temp swings so that tire pressure stays more constant. There is also an application for nitrogen in low profile tires and racing tires but a TRX on all terrain 32's would not need that at all.

So 100% nitrogen doesn't follow PV=nRT as closely as 80%?

so i looked it up here (getnitrogen.org) and they say it is water and oil in normal compressed air. they also claim that O will pass through the tire easier than N. The water can condense or evaporate based on temp.

so the tldr on the whole thing is that you should put dry air in your tires, and charge $500 per vehicle for it.

Nitrogen doesn't expand and contract like regular air. For every 10 degrees of temperature change in the air or on the tires themselves, the tire psi will change by 1. Cold it goes down, hot it goes up.

With nitrogen it doesn't do that as much. Also tires can lose pressure over time through seepage when filled with regular air. The manufacturers say up to 5 psi a month, but that number is extreme. Nitrogen won't do this as much.

Overall it's a scam for people who don't know shit about cars.the tire needs to be purged of all air before adding the nitrogen. Should you need to add pressure to a tire afterwards, better go and try to find a nitrogen fill in the fly, because if you add regular air, you have to start all over again.

Meanwhile, the guys at the dealership rub their nipples as they see you drive away.

Air from a 150psi pump and nitrogen seem the same, dry air must be under one of these, but there isn't a difference.

The difference is from water in the air from what i can see, n2 and o2 are diatomic molecules, and iirc statistical mechanics would say that it wouldn't be until the 3rd term there would be differences in pressure.

as far as leaking through the tire, i can believe that one.

So moral of the story don't be a lazy fuck check your tire pressure weekly fill with air avoid jew fees.

Thats the mark up sticker. Dealers can sell for whatever price they want. When i sold cars we called the markup sticker the idiot price. Problem is with the chip shortage they can mark it up this high and some idiot will actually buy it.

Yep, this is a toy, but it the car retails for 100k , and prices are up 20% this year, that's 20k right there. And that's not even accounting for the fact that this is a good that is in particularly short supply. Like I say, this is sort of a poor example of a travesty because no one NEEDS one of these. Ferraris tend to be marked up when new as well; few people bitch about that. But people who need work trucks are paying almost as much which is a problem.
