Watch wild video captured earlier this afternoon in Goose Creek, South Carolina shows an 18-wheeler carrying a military tank getting stuck on railroad tracks and being struck by a CSX freight train. Numerous bystanders witnessed the incident. Officials reported that the truck, using a lowboy trailer to transport an M109 Paladin Howitzer tank, became stuck while crossing the tracks. The oncoming train collided with the truck, causing significant damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the driver refused treatment. ‘It’s not every day you see a tank get smashed by a train,’ some workers joked

I wonder how different this would have been if the tank was over the tracks and it was what got hit instead of the truck.

This made me question how soon a message can be relayed to the train operator. If you call 911 do they have a hotline number to CSX dispatch which can call/radio the engineer? Will 911 spend 5 minutes with you asking stupid questions before actually calling them? Just wondering if stuff like this can be avoided or at least the speed of impact reduced with better communication.

i’m going to guess stopping distance varies on load size, but i’m pretty sure train operators see this shit happening a mile away and still can’t stop in time. they must get wild feelings depending on what kind of shit show is stuck on the tracks. is it grandma loosing her marbles? is it a bus full of kids? a truck full of beaners? or is it a fucking howitzer that very well could derail you?
