DEF= Deisel Exhaust Fluid. It's basically synthetic horse piss that's meant to reduce emissions on deisel engines.

It's an additive for diesel fuel. It's not even gas.
It's not an additive because you don't add it to the fuel. Its separate, (but not equal), and is mixed into the exhaust as a fine mist
