That's not mine. That's a legend there. Bob Spooner is one of the few that can actually say he's backed up more miles than we drove foward and might be true.
That truck has over 8 million miles on it.
With good maintenance and suitable upgrades to engines, etc. trucks are about as close to indestructible as you can get. I've tried keeping a "pet" truck but it's an expensive proposition. Sure did like those 5X4 transmissions, though.
Oh yeah. I know they're expensive to maintain and operate. That's why I'll most likely die as a company jockey.
I had only ever driven a 10 speed but I have to admit, the automatic I'm in now is spoiling me. A lot of guys hate automatics and talk shit about them but I'll take anything that makes my job easier.
I've only driven an automatic once and that was years ago. Thought it was a POS but they've probably been improved since then. I've kept one truck just for shits and giggles (I'm retired) and it has an 18 speed. I'm in Alaska so need as many gears as you can get for the Haul road and the Alcan. Need as much of everything that you can get, actually.
PS. My screen name is taken from "Turnagain Bay", a bay off the Cook Inlet.
