I didn't measure how tall it was, but the root ball was about 7'6". 9" caliper on the trunk. Maple. Yeah, they wanted a fully grown tree, right there, this side facing the house. They had a second one and three crabapples down the hill. We built some crazy stone walls there before so I thought I had a good idea of the soil make up. Turns out my path was the softest, most rock devoid soil on the property. Damn machine put some 20" ruts trying to get that I've set. Crabs went in with the skid, no problem, but the big boy with the big tree... She it

Big trees are scary. An old oak tree fell and missed my relatives house by a few feet recently. Most of my immediate family members were in the house at the time. The tree surely would have crushed the house.

A lot of potential energy in trees. Scary stuff when they go over.
