He saw a deal on the internet for a trip cruising on a boat in Europe around one of the northern coasts of Italy. He's all excited he's like "do you want to go?" I'm like "sure". I said, "don't forget though it is winter in Europe and it will be cold." "It won't be too bad." He calls me back about 20 minutes later and told me it was all booked. And then he decided to do due diligence. "Fuck, the average temperature of where we're going to be is 34°." "Yup".... I don't care one way or the other. I got a free meal for 16 days. Granted I got to share a cabin with my geriatric farting and belching father and the average age is going to be about 75 but I get to go somewhere I've never been before. Regardless of the weather I don't think it'll be that bad. I just don't remember if it's posh to use an umbrella in europe or not. And not for nothing if it's downpouring I'll just sit in a cafe and drink tea all day while in port.

You are getting to spend time with your dad while he's on the downward spiral. I don't see that as a sacrifice.

True. He can be an insufferable dick sometimes to people. And it can be very embarrassing to be around.

We're going on a trip in October to go check out the solar eclipse in America. This will be our test to see how compatible we are. We're going to be in a car or more or less 14 days straight driving out and back to the eclipse.

What a good thing to do, sounds like your dad could use and enjoy your presence greatly. Sorry to hear about your mom, I hope she's able to return home soon- hope she's safe and being well taken care of too. Sounds like a great trip- enjoy it!

Nope there's no getting out of the nursing home for Mom, she'll be there until the end. She actually does enjoy herself there. They take decent enough care of her and they're very gentle with her and that's all she needed. She has a very fragile personality and it wasn't looked after all that well throughout her lifetime. So at least now she's getting what she needs.

It will be an interesting trip. I think it'll be funny in certain ways. Mostly because it's going to be cold and my father lives in Florida where it'll be 75-80° until it'll be freezing for half a month for him. I generally go to Arizona in the winter so it's usually cold but not freezing. Regardless it's not going to be Siberia so we'll figure it out.

I like being on the water although I don't like sailing if that makes any sense. I like being on ferries and this will be my first cruise. I don't think my father has that much time left just because he doesn't take care of himself and he's got a tricky circulatory system. So it will be good to spend time with him. He can be kind of embarrassing sometimes due to being a braggart. Fingers crossed he won't act up on this cruise.
