Late May is the best time to go, it's light sweater/hoodie weather, it's right before tourist season so the crowds aren't there yet. Definitely rent a car, don't bother with buses or chauffers.
So the summer only sucks because of the tourism?
I would say yes. If you're driving up the wild atlantic way, the last thing you want is to be stuck behind a bus or to drive off a cliff.
I know nothing about it so it sounds like there's a cliff drive, kind of like how you get on the Big Sur drive in California where once wrong turn and you're off into the drink.
Would you happen to know of any personal guided tour companies. So like someone drives us around and we just ask them to stop everywhere. I know you say don't do it, but I'm curious about it.
