This new policy means little girls are going to get pat downs from grown men who think they’re women. As if it’s not bad enough that they give old ladies and little kids pat downs, now they have to fear some creepy guy doing the pat down. This is sick

FYI, Friends: SeaTac’s
has a new policy that now includes transwomen being assigned to do pat downs of female passengers (and vice versa, I’m sure).
TSA agents initially insisted this morning, as their policy dictated, that I had no right to request a different agent be assigned to touch sensitive areas of my body, but I was later informed by a supervisor that passengers DO have the option to request a different agent FOR ANY REASON.
As someone who has been sexually assaulted multiple times, this option is crucial to my ability to travel freely and comfortably (to put it mildly).
TSA handled my situation as well as they could in the moment, and I will heal soon enough from the fear and trauma I experienced from essentially being forced to allow the pat down to start against my will, however, it’s terribly unfortunate that the transwoman assigned to me had to feel embarrassment and hurt at my persistent request for a FEMALE officer.
I would recommend that TSA change this policy immediately and reserve pat down assignments for officers who identify in accordance with their biological sex, not in a spirit of discrimination, but one of RESPECT for all parties involved.
I apologized multiple times to the agent, and was assured the person understood and was fine, but there is no reason either of us should have had to go through that situation, and there really is no way for me to be sure I can avoid offending another trans-identified person in the future, even if I know I have a right to request someone else.
