The power goes out all of the sudden(you paid the bill), and your cell has no signal. No power means no TV or radio, but its obvious that the power is out all over town. Your wife and kids are freaking out and your neighbors(who you never talk to) are knocking on the door, requesting your assistence.. what do you do?

lets start similar conversations like these. run scenerios, and develop plans of actions that everyone can practically adapt

yes, good point. the survivalist mindset dictates that you be strong enough to either say no or like you said, just dont answer..

Here's the thing; getting involved with unprepared individuals during a crisis can severely compromise you.

More so than anything, they aren't mentally prepared to adapt to that situation because the thought that they'd have to never crossed their mind.

Its not out of callousness: it's the same reason we can't solve poverty by simply bringing everyone to western countries
