My main concerns (maybe they're nothing) are: 1. Bakelite is very brittle. I collect WW2 items, and it is very easy to break. I have a tendency to leave chatter marks on my pipes, so I would be concerned with that and oxidation. 2. The length of the stem is longer than any pipe cleaner I have. I am not sure how you would clean that? 3. The cork base between the stem and the bowl seems like it would be difficult to repair when worn.
