A real neverending cycle of birthdays, holidays, weddings, and funerals.

All of which are out of town.

All of which I have to take time off of work for.

These fucking weddings are getting out of hand. These people could've gone on, fucking each other in the privacy of their own bedrooms, but no, they have to have a party to celebrate the fact that they are only fucking each other, and they do all types of sick shit, like invite their grandparents to these glorified 'we are having sex together' parties. I'm all for giving a bro a high-5 when he lays a hottie, but do we really need to have a party about it, especially one that is out of town?

That's time I have to take off of work.

Some of my relatives are so bad they die unexpectedly and all of the the sudden I have to drive across three states to get there. And does your boss ever believe it when multiple close relatives dies in rapid succession? No, they always think I'm making it up, which I understand.

And then these fucking birthdays. It's always your mom guilt tripping you into coming, too.

Theo, it is your half-brothers 50th birthday, and it is labor day weekend, so everyone has off. I rented a really nice house down the shore, I just want all my boys under the same roof again one last time, I think that would be nice. Both your brothers and all your nephews will be there, and sometimes I like having the family all together, especially since your father died.

Fucking whore. I could've been working, making money, or shitposting on the internet, and that is all you can think about? Time spent with family and loved ones?

Time spent with family and loved ones can always be replaced. Money cannot.

Happy Labor Day weekend!

Several years ago, it became clear to me that my family doesn't give a damn about my safety.

My Grandmother decided an early December gathering for family photos would be perfect (she also expected everyone to show up for Christmas) and "Everyone is going to be here". I took the requested days off work plus 2 extra, because they live 4 states away. When the time came, a blizzard hit my home area. I called to cancel and got the biggest guilt trip of my life. No one cared that the roads were closed and the airport was shut down, the goddamn pictures were the most important thing in the world, and I'd ruined it for everyone. They would have been thrilled if I'd said "Okay, I'm going to start out now. I'm hitching the hound to the front of the truck."

I don't visit anymore.
