Well, my health has actually had enough of an upswing that I feel good enough to go to an actual gym in order to actually better myself physically and hopefully keep up medically. However, I don't know the first thing about exercise other than "lift with your legs, not with your back." Should I go with a bigger gym (24hour fitness is closer to me, but they're pozzed for certain) or a smaller one that may not have as many options? What vitamins and/or supplements should I stock up on to pair with exercise to ensure I'm not lacking anything essential, if any can't be obtained best with food? Any good starter groups of exercises to work into the whole routine?

Lambast me for being an idiot all you want, but there's a bunch of clutter around trying to learn about fitness, lots of people who lie or over complicate to get cash or attention. On the flip side, back in high school, the most the PE teacher did was say "This machine is good for this, those machines are good for that, go nuts" when unleashing the class on the weight room. Which didn't help either, because he didn't actually talk about actual healthy gym time or a good balance.

Which gym to choose

Choose the one that has more equipment and fits your schedule

What vitamins and/or supplements

You don't really need any if you focus your diet on whole foods. If you want to use whey powder get unflavored one which is without any chemicals. Are you looking to lose weight or gain?

Workout program

Don't waste your time on anything but programs that focus mainly on barbell lifts. I'm using a modified version of Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 and wholeheartedly suggests it to anyone, it's very simple and has an app.

As others suggested HIIT is great for cardio and if you have a boxing bag that's great as well.

If you have any questions ask away.

So the 24hour fitness.

I was asking more on the off chance that there's something lacking in most foods, due to the fuckening of our food supply and nutrition. People focused more on the supplements half of the statement than the vitamins.

Are you looking to lose weight or gain?

Lose fat, gain muscle. Stamina too. Want a useful build, not an attractive but useless build. I did plan on getting a heavy bag, but everywhere around me is sold out at the moment. Was gonna try looking on craigslist next for a personal one.

I'll look into the 5/3/1 method.

Some sage advice from a lotta folks. I will reiterate consistency and forging your own path. Keep what works for you and shit can the rest. Also, never forget that diet and exercise are a package deal. Eat whole foods and remember that resistance is your friend. The discipline of iron will benefit every aspect of your life. Prioritizing health and fitness is a fun and useful passion. Welcome to the Brohood.
