Shitty situation, but at least things are moving and you have a job.
You are at the end of overcoming a big problem with addiction in your life, now God is pushing you in the direction to another struggle that will trigger your personal growth. Everything is happening for a reason, no matter how it turns out there is always something to learn from it. It will all make sense when you figure out what role you are meant to fill in this world.
Work wise I'm in a similar situation, working on a big thing that could finally make my life easier, but every single person I'm dealing with seems to be severely retarded and has no idea what they want.
You have a lot of experience with sales? Have any advice you could give me? I also send loads of emails, but they don't seem to really get people to engage.

Emails don't really work, getting them on the phone is 100 times better.
That being said, your email is probably too long. Make it as short as humanly possible. And the subject line is by far and away the most important line of the email.
