Not my pic. First thing this morning while I was about to start my first lion calling session of the day a friend texted me and said he was going shed hunting in an area we both frequent, asking if I wanted to come with, but I declined. Well he just sent me this pic. Its a pretty amazing find really. This young mulie buck just died peacefully in its sleep. Very rare way to go here. We're absolutely infested with predators. Lions, wolves etc. Very very few deer, elk or moose just die peacefully in their sleep here, it's a rough life. But probably the most striking thing is that he was still untouched by scavengers, what are the odds of that? Had to have been dead less than a day. First come the magpies and ravens, eagles, turkey vultures, then the bigger stuff lured in by the bird ruckus like bobcats, coyotes, mountain lions and wolves. Bears are asleep now. Just crazy to find an unmolested dead deer in a peaceful pose like this, not even touched by scavenger birds yet. Crazy stuff. He was quite scrawny. Likely just wore himself out beyond the point of recovery during the rut, or maybe there was something else going on there. Either way, a very unusual find. He gave me permission to post the pic here.

I have existential dread at the thought of death. He looks so peaceful.

Were all going to die. Why worry about that which is inevitable? Focus on the things you CAN control, like what you do while you live. Look at me philosiphising. Sheeeeit.
