Yeah, I had a dinner plate in there with some chicken thighs surrounded by maple chips. After a bit I realized the same and threw it on a tripod, this picture came out way cooler though.

I like sitting my pot right beside the fire and rotating it once n a while to keep all the sides hot. Or even just stir the pot and leave one side cooler then the other it doesn't really matter too much.

Cool post. I would really like to start smoking stuff in my yard like the snow niggers do. Ever had authentic smoked salmon? Problem is i could really only do it in the winter, otherwise my shit would get torn up by bears. Bunch of asshole bears here love destroying my stuff, even the stuff that doesnt involve hanging strips of meat and fish outside. If theyre going to rip apart my foam archery targets and the fences i put up around newly planted trees then im sure theyd get into some smoking meats.

I've only got black bears to deal with very rarely so it's usually not an issue, I generally stay near the pot while cooking and it helps that I'll bring a few beers and some ammo with to kill some time.

Smoking eskimo style takes a long time though, i couldnt guard it the whole time. But i am always armed even at home. Several uncomfortably close lion and bear encounters right in my back yard. Get wolves and moose roaming through occasionally too. Just not a good idea to fuck around outside without a gun. Bluffed off a number of asshole critters, only ever had to kill one bear and one lion for being dickheads. But ive killed several for recreational / food acquisition purposes.

shit mane, one time I was out riding around the back roads in my truck, 4-wheeling and drinking and smoking weed. I gots the munchies. I pulled off, built a fire and stomped some beer cans flat and made a plate. I laid a bunch of Doritos down on the plate and I found some old swiss cheese in my cooler and laid it on top of the Doritos. It all melted. It was one of the best meals I ever had.
