A new patent by Detroit automaker Ford may make future Ford cars owners snitches on speeding drivers to law enforcement agencies. The technology works passively using cameras, LIDAR and radar devices mounted around a vehicle to monitor the speed of other vehicles. If speeding is detected, relevant data is forwarded directly to law enforcement and/or the nearest police car. Care to have your vehicle deputized, anyone?

Who will be your accuser in this case?

The defence calls a 2027 Ford Fusion...

Arizona already went through that with speed cameras, they couldn't make them stick and people through away the notice of violation without paying.

They will make the car owner repair it at their own expense as part of vehicle inspection claiming it as a safety device. Should be good for parts sales, too.

I would think the accuser would be the state (LEO), the data/record submitted by the ford fusion would just be treated the same as an officers radar equipment, though I suspect the defense could require the detection/measuring equipment be evaluated for accuracy, which would be a pain for the owner.
