Those are being charged and discharged constantly, in some cases probably more than once a day.

I can't prove it, but I suspect that has something to do with it. There's probably also a lot of wear and tear on charging ports and other items, as well as the aforementioned hot charges.

Batteries aren't designed to take that kind of punishment. I have lost two laptop batteries just with normal use. Both swelled up like a balloon.

Yes. And this type of battery physically swells a little when charging - see the Samsung debacle.

Do that over and over and over without any rest periods and you run the risk of cracking a battery internally. A juicy class D fire happens, and everyone goes wut?
