People get all judgemental with me when I tell them I 'read' audio books while I drive or mow the lawn or work around the house. Mother fuckers, do I look like some picture book nigger to you? I know how to read, I choose to be productive while I absorb the same freaking content!
Still waiting for Hitler’s audiobook. Would love to blast that shit and have people think: “Shit, he’s right. What are you listening to?”
Text to speech is pretty good these days man. Everything is an audiobook.
Ps. Fuck Amazon and their DRM shit, I will not pay 3 times more for your 'audible' bullshit!
You don't have it? Mein kampf is on archive . org
Audio format? I shall download tomorrow when I return to my computer terminal.
I love audiobooks. Driving and running represent hours of time that I can use to improve myself by “reading” books I wouldn’t otherwise have time to read.
I've listened to a lot of audiobooks and I have a mixed feeling about them. On one hand they're great because you can do something else while listening to them. But that's a problem in and of itself. Since you're doing something else at the same time, your full attention is not focused on the book. There may be times when you miss important parts. But having said that, who has time to read these days?
Sometimes for really dense/cerebral stuff (especially stuff that needs supplemental charts/references) it can be tough/pointless, same with slower/less engaging fiction. WWI history book took a few rewinds, Had to re-read GoT 5 on the elliptical (read the other 4 no problem when I was epic commuting). Made it through The Selfish Gene like it was nothing though. I've read a huge pile of old sci-fi (including really dry shit like Clark and Azimov) while doing everything from my job, to driving, to mowing. Read about 75% of Mein Kampf on the lawn mower, read The Turner Diaries while VR space trucking...
