I've "slapped" the side of dogs that size on the side and hind when playing or petting before, probably harder. They love it.

I play with my cat with my hands (and it shows) she is clawed and everything. if you seen a 20 second clip of me playing with her you would be retarded enough to think its abuse. When in fact she loves it, i use very little force. But, on a 80lb "dog" no way she could hurt it, especially for what she did.
