Excellent report on your escape. Hope the new place is way better.
It was a bit rougher than I thought it would be, but we all made it alive and mostly unscathed. On Saturday, Wife and Daughter took off early with the two dogs. I stayed behind to manage the movers loading the truck and to finish packing things. Good gods, so many things. We finally finished at 6:00pm. I left California driving a full-sized pickup full of stuff, including the three cats, and towing a small trailer.
I pretty much went straight through. There was a bit of traffic at first, but then it all thinned out. Stopped at the Bass Pro in Rocklin for about 15 minutes for a rest and cat-check. I’d been playing a track of calming cat purring to keep them sane. It sounds gay as fuck, but it worked. You ever drive a cat anywhere? It’s loud and difficult. The cat makes sure you know it. Now imagine three. But the calming / purring track seemed to help a lot.
Left Bass Pro and started the climb. Switched to listening to audio books. Cats stayed mostly quiet. Thought the drive up the hill and over the summit would be hard. Not really. Pretty easy. Rolled in to the new house at 10:30pm.
I was sore. I’m older now, and spending a day packing and loading on top of a week of packing took a lot out of me. Ibuprofen and Tylenol have been my friends.
Movers arrived with our stuff Sunday at 3:00pm. We got it all unloaded and mostly square by about 8:30pm. We still have boxes everywhere. So this next week will be unpacking.
All told the move itself cost us about $5,000. A little expensive but worth every penny. The movers were mostly Russian and Kazakhstani. Very based, very nice, and worked hard and with care. Good crew.
I’m tired, and I’m really sore, and I’m praying my back holds up. But I’m here. We’re here. We’re no longer in kommiefornia. And if you’ve ever thought about leaving California, do it. The current mess, if it were begun to be fixed now, will take at least two generations to come around. I won’t see it in my lifetime. My Son and Daughter probably won’t either. I truly hope Marin County, and California itself burns in my wake. The assholes who destroyed that beautiful state deserve to perish horribly.
Thank you all again for your encouragement and well-wishing. I thought about that a lot on the drive up and it really helped. It’s a tough transition for me, having lived all my life in California. But you all helped me start a new and better life. Thank you for that.
