A coworker and I were going to lunch not that long ago. I'm driving my car, and he asks "Is your radio broken?"

I go no, it's not broken, why do you ask?

"The screen is dark."

I inform him that it's "off" and punch the power button. The screen lights with it's "apps" screen, a list of totally useless things the device can do, including perform like a radio from 1926 with a bad 201.

There was no more conversation as I believe the person simply locked up with not understanding that the device doesn't need to be on all the time, especially when it's not in use. There's nothing on terrestrial ad broadcast that I want to listen to, and I prefer simply listening to the road over most garbage that's on the air these days.

I don't think I can turn my screen off. Which is fine, I have it setup to display a clock.

It's very true that people need some type of stimulation constantly now.

The one I'm using has it's clock in a separate display.

Knowing what I do about this person, even just a clock with nothing blaring out of it would have raised questions.

I personally dislike modern stereo systems in cars. I miss the 90s, backlit amber with AM/FM/Aux. That's all you need.

I'd rather have had a storage pocket than the radio in that car, to be honest. It would at least serve a function.

I cannot drive in silence. The 70s/80s station is usually on. That or I bluetooth Amazon music.

Amazon Music. So you go to listen to a playlist and they remove half the songs because muh not this moth free pay for it more. Fuck that I deleted the app after downloading all the MP3’s from the discs I bought over the years.

I've noticed writing on TV shows and movies has markedly declined over the past ~5 years, and it wasn't particularly good in the first place.

One of the factors at play is the rise of "second screen viewing", where producers know that the majority of viewers aren't actually paying attention to the show, because they have a phone in their hands at all times.

This leads the producers to push writers for a huge amount of exposition in every fucking episode, where characters repeatedly explain the plot and narrative up to this point for the retards that can't put their fucking phones down.

The screens will make us all retarded, if they haven't already.

I haven't noticed. Gave up most of that kind of media back in the 90s.

What a bad little goyim you are

I know. No debt, no television, and niggers go back to Africa.

None of my vehicles have screens. I don't even use phone mounts. But there are no less than five screens on right now in this room.

Quiet drives are the best. After you have deliberately listened to your car to see if it making any odd noises that need to be addressed, enjoying silence is golden.

I drive a standard. I listen to it to determine when I shift.

I also drive standard. I have one hand on the stick almost always and feel it there along with the vibration in the accelerator. It is handy to be able to feel the engine in case you have a wife in the car who turns on the radio and/or starts yapping.
