I look forward to prices crashing down when the AI bubble bursts and we suddenly have excess supply and manufacturing capacity.

$40 trillion bubble bursts Gonna have money for RAM.

You are so fucking cute. , get a load of this guy, give him a cute fluffy bear icon.!

He’s not wrong though.

You can now have 128GB (32x4) DDR3 1333MHZ for $65. That’s because they still have large stocks and there’s no demand anymore.

The same will apply when Asian ram manufacturers will come up with a new type. The DDR5 prices will plummet, it has already started with the DDR4 when Microsoft announced that it will stop supporting Win10, which represents > 700 millions DDR4 based computers.

DDR6

Initial data rate: 8800 MT/s First generation speeds: Up to 17600 MT/s Future potential speed: Up to 21333 MT/s

lol, wtf. Your CAS latency of 94 is no longer bad. (8 real world latency)

I should have upped the rig to 64 GB months ago when I was just considering it.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, don't coulda woulda shoulda, you'll always lose there. I had 128gb in my cart for months at $250, bought at $560 "thankfully" only paying double it's worth, not 6x or more like it is now.

I got this last year for $79.99. Just a search shows it for 89.99 for the cheapest but some are showing 129.99. My guess is DDR5 is in more demand. I am planning an AM5 build soon and want 128GB DDR5 but I expect that to hurt a tad when I make the buy.

lol I got my 128 at 560, just after prices started skurocketing. Even ddr4 is much higher than it should be. It's a forced, planned lie to... I dunno, I have multiple theories.

[–] 0 pt

What theory do you have? All I can come up with is tariffs. I don't see why the government would want stop PC builders. HP and Dell of course have a reason but the how many people actually build their own shit?

[–] 0 pt

Prevent home labs, stop people from self--hosting their own LLM. "force" people into their controlled ecosystem.

[–] 0 pt

Goy you can't build your own computer and put your own OS on it, that leads to piracy and the far right, you have to use locked down bootloaders in walled garden disposable devices that cost $500+

[–] 1 pt

You been saying this for weeks. Is there an actual price increase? Like in what? I’m not building 256gb server and shit, but I don’t see the increase.

Yes there is. It takes just a minute to search RAM prices. Even smaller amounts of RAM such as 32GB have shot up to double the price we were at just a short time ago. The AI plague is raising prices on many components and modules across the spectrum that regular people use. It will get worse soon when anything that uses flash memory see cost increases as well.

pcpartpicker

Go look, it's gone up like 300% or more in cases.

[–] 0 pt

Is it some type? The ram I use for i5 and i7 older boxes hasn’t moved.

Is it that new fast shit that they need for muh ai?

[–] 1 pt

It's mainly DDR5 prices, but DDR4 has gone up as well just not as much.

It's gonna fuck my work budgets so badly next year. I tried to convince the boss that we should stock up but he says we can only spend so much on hardware per month. I'm gonna remind him of that next summer when our regular laptops are at least 50% more expensive.
