Things went up about 15%, as expected. Deductibles didn't change, it's still so high that the only way you'd reach it is if you have a serious incident or chronic disease.

Essentially, it's paying an insurance company $3100 a year + deductibles if you actually use the plan to work for my employer. Fuck that shit, I declined as usual. In the reason portion, I thought about putting "Because these plans are fucking bullshit" but I simply chose "do not want coverage at this time" as the reason.

Smartbird. That much out of pocket just for "What if" is absolute insanity - particularly if you're young and/or in reasonably good health. Banking that same amount in an HSA would be a much wiser move. We had major healthcare happenstances with our youngest 30 years ago that were covered entirely by insurance - likely would have been mid 6 figures to us if it was out of pocket. Would have utterly ruined us for life. So I have always tried to keep my mouth shut or at least tempered my words in these matters, because we were the outlier situation where insurance was a blessing. But things have changed so much since then, and (((greed and avarice))) now governs all aspects of the "industry".

Can't use an HSA unless you have a high-deductible insurance plan. I have one left from an old employer that I've slowly been drawing down over the years, but I can't add to it otherwise I would for the tax advantage.

I'm in decent health, but getting older. My "Oh shit your body is broken and it's going to take hundreds of thousands to fix" is taking the money I have saved and trying all the drugs I didn't try when I was younger.

and trying all the drugs I didn't try when I was younger.

In my experience, they're all overrated - the occasional aspirin or NSAID being the exception.

I'm talking more like the ones that Drs. Leary and Feelgood would prescribe to you.

...but you probably meant that, didn't you.
