Sorry to hear that, Bird - we'll keep her in our prayers. My son had something similar happen 10 years ago, and it turned out to be a benign meningioma. It was very operable and he had an excellent outcome. Hopefully your mother's experience will mirror his.

Be sure to encourage her to do her physical therapy! My dear mother didn't and it led to problems.
