I rummaged through dumpsters in college a time or two. Good pickings if you know where to look.

Aldi and Trader Joe's are pretty good pickens during the Winter. They throw out a lot of packages products where the expiration dates don't matter as much as you might think.
Having a leg inside a Green Dumpster when a disinterested parking-lot cop rolls and asks you what you are doing, that makes your question the worth-whileness of the Poet lifestyle.
