Even if you did need to use the brake pad to slow down, all you need to do is give it a slow and very light press to make the car gradually slow down back to ten above.
While I agree with what you're saying I would rather not get rear ended by some idiot that isn't paying attention. In fact when studying for my CDL I recall the manual saying that even if you can reduce your speed by downshifting you should still tap your brakes to alert other drivers. I don't think it's the brakes that are the issue, it's the clowns barely paying attention to the car in front of them let alone scanning father ahead. That and overreacting. There would be far less bad drivers if automatic transmission and antilock brakes weren't a thing.

True Facts
It's because so many fucking retards drive with both feet. One on the gas, one on the brake. Just shifting in their seat is enough to tap the brakes. Add in they're probably texting and it's recipe for disaster.
Downshift master race.
My brethren.
My dad taught us to drive manual transmission cars, so the idea of braking to slow down wasn't a thing. Even now I 'ease off the gas' to 'let the car slow itself down" before braking.
"You use brakes to stop, not slow down." I can still hear that in his voice.
This did not need to be said before we had all of these damn pakis all over the place.
But it's not just the curry niggers, niggers, taco niggers, corn niggers, or any other shitskins. It's by and large your average White driver. I see it every day on my way to work and back. I'm to the point I drive in the carpool lane because fuck you I'm not sitting in traffic with people incapable of driving in a manner that doesn't create phantom traffic jams. I see it every morning, a fucking retard in the fast lane holding hands with the car next to it with a mile of open road in front and a 1/4 mile of traffic behind jockeying to get around them.
I don't have time for that, a carpool violation is cheap and restores my sanity.
It's malpractice that these people aren't given tickets.
Thank God I'm not the only one who feels this way. At worst, I'll let my foot hover over the break pedal, but otherwise I let myself coast along on the freeway if I'm not holding speed on the level. If I gotta come to a stop sooner than I'd bleed off speed, I gently tap the break to slowly stop, never holding the break for long until I'm already at a near stop. Or someone flew in front of me at breakneck speeds and I had to hold the break to slow down enough to not cause an accident rear-ending some chuckle fuck dipshit who thought he could fit his fancy sports car in an ever decreasing space that was already too risky for anyone with a working brain.
I remember getting into arguments with my paternal grandma about it, because she always got mad at me for not holding the break on the freeway when it sloped downwards slightly and I picked up speed. She was always screaming at me that I was going to crash/get a ticket/kill someone/whatever when I'm going to slow down anyway. It's not even like I jumped up 20+ miles over the speed limit, more like 5-10 over and that would bleed off relatively quickly. In fact, she would usually want me UNDER the speed limit.
