The authenticity and security of an election has been one of the core tenets of a civilized country, but the level of emotional attachment people have to the belief that elections will always be authentic and secure is, ironically, the security hole.

In the u.s. the emotions have been taken advantage of, and now the integrity of elections is highly questionable. Even the dems had a hand in eroding that trust by claiming Russians were able to interfere with it when Trump won the first time. However, not everyone can so easily detach emotionally from the idea that the elections are authentic, even folks here on Poal. It will take time, but attacking them like this will just get them riled up and critical thinking gets kicked down the road even further.

FWIW up here in Canada i have, several times, made a point to show up at the voting booth and effectively vote none-of-the-above (I think it's called abstaining here and it is recorded separately) because I was so disappointed with all candidates, even the "conservative" ones. I could've stayed home on election day, but I wanted my disapproval with the entire system recorded and counted. Did my decision have a major effect? Of course not, it's a drop in the bucket. But to anyone taking data mining seriously it made more of a % difference than staying home. If enough people did that then the growth of outspoken disgruntled voters speaks more than the number of people who didnt even show up.
