I'm glad she didn't get hurt or neglected; sounds like your dad is an amazing guy.
He has his moments of compassion and he owed it to my mom big time. I have to remind him sometimes to not be a dick but we can all be guilty of that from time to time.
His health is slowly failing and I think he sees that (he's got hardening arteries) and there's just no helping it. Which is scary because it's hereditary. But there's no getting out of this alive. I pray to the powers that be he won't die in a nursing home or in a hospice bed.
It's hard watching your parents get old. Then when you have to step in and take care of them, that's really quite jarring, emotionally and physically. Hang in there and take one day at a time.
