It’s interesting. It uses a new open source protocol called the AT protocol. It seems like Mastodon, but for more than just X like sites. Their site software is closed source, so I don’t know if it matters that the protocol is open. It’s not like Mastodon where both the protocol and software are both open source and free for use.

It shows you how to use your own domain name in your username on their server. All you need is a DNS record, no software on your own server. Aside from that I don’t see anything open about it from a practical standpoint.

Well yeah, bluesky is what twitter used to be. Twitter is still full of furry porn and tumblrites, but they're not quite as out in the open.

Bluesky is the "twitter after twitter" thing started by Twitter's founder Dorsey after he left Twitter because Twitter was not what Twitter was founded to be. Are you tired of the word Twitter yet?
