It's a matter of intent. A kind liar that lies because they are empathetic is better than an honest asshole
Depends on the content of the deception. However I opine that not only is it still dishonest but it is mostly done for the purpose of optics of behalf of the one lying for how they perceive the situation and how the other may react. Ultimately, tho it's just disingenuous. A truly empathetic individual would understand the value and importance of honesty and personal integrity over being deceived.
